AI-TransformED: Competence, Culture and Capacity for Generative AI in Education and Training
The AI-TransformED project aims to build systemic, scalable, and ethically grounded capacity for integrating generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) across secondary, vocational, and higher education. Structured around the original AI Growth and Transformation Framework (AI-GTF), the project unfolds in four interlinked phases: Readiness, Integration, Innovation, and Institutionalisation. AI-TransformED equips education providers with tools and a strategic model to govern GenAI adoption through structured diagnostics scenario-based educator training, inclusive experimentation, and long-term policy alignment. By embedding spiral-based institutional readiness, criterion-referenced training, and ethics-by-design into its architecture, the project positions GenAI as a driver of inclusive, high-quality, and future-ready education. To this end, the project will: Empower institutions to assess and anticipate their GenAI transformation using diagnostic toolkits that include self-assessment surveys and stakeholder consultation protocols. These tools support the co-creation of context-sensitive AI Roadmaps embedded in governance structures. Equip educators through the development and deployment of a microcredentialing framework based on the Competence Framework for Generative AI Pedagogy. Training modules are progression-based, mapped to real educator roles, and incorporate authentic tasks, scenario design, and evidence-based competence validation. Activate innovation ecosystems via institutional Sandbox Labs that serve as agile environments for co-creating ethical, inclusive, and pedagogically sound GenAI Use Cases. These Labs connect institutional experimentation to system-wide replication through the AI-TransformED Learning HUB. Institutionalise and scale successful models through QA integration, and policy alignment.
AI-TransformED supports long-term sustainability by co-developing national and EU-level policy recommendations and a transferability framework.
